We generally recommend connecting scanners through an ISIS interface or a Kofax Adrenaline board whenever possible. Scanner connection to SAPERION via the TWAIN interface requires additional configuration. Special features, such as endorsing or barcode recognition, may require customization.
- ISIS Interface
In general, SAPERION supports scanners with the appropriate ISIS driver. ISIS is a standard for scanner drivers developed by Pixel Translations (also see: www.pixtran.com) that is also a MS61 standard as specified by AIIM. High quality scanners already have ISIS drivers included, otherwise they are available from Pixel Translations. Due to the high quality of ISIS drivers, they rarely need additional adjustment. Based on experience, we recommend the use of ISIS drivers for all scanners. For ISIS drivers, automatic document feed (ADF) and duplex scanning are supported, whereas endorsing is not actively supported.
To allow connectivity to scanners that do not have an ISIS driver, developer toolkits are provided by Pixel Translations (www.pixtran.com) and LEADTOOLS (www.leadtools.com).
- TWAIN Interface
Another standard for scanner drivers is TWAIN. As in many standards, there sometimes are manufacturers that do not successfully implement this driver. Especially automatic document feeders (ADF) are often poorly controlled. We recommend that a connection via TWAIN be thoroughly tested.
For TWAIN drivers, SAPERION does not support duplex scanning.
- Kofax Adrenaline
In general, SAPERION supports scanners with the appropriate Kofax Adrenaline board. Adrenaline is a set of scanner controllers, image processing accelerators, and software engines for professional document scanning.
For Kofax Adrenaline boards, barcode recognition, endorsing, and VirtualReScan are also supported.

In principle, SAPERION 5.6 supports all true SCSI-2 devices. However, standards are often implemented incorrectly or only partially. SAPERION therefore recommends to use only devices that are sure to be tested and working. These systems are compatible with SAPERION and have been used in various projects. Manufacturer brands that are not listed on the compatibility list can be verified on a case-by case basis. This work will be charged separately.
Please note the following:
Jukeboxes
- For Windows 2000-2003 we support ASPI as well as generic SCSI. For Linux and Solaris we support the generic SCSI mechanism provided by the operating system.
- The connection between controller and jukebox as well as the SCSI bus terminator should always be of the highest quality and comply with the latest standards.
- Jukeboxes not adhering to the SCSI-2/SCSI-3 command set and/or with special features require custom programming from SAPERION, possibly resulting in additional costs.
Adapters
- SCSI Controllers with AMD chipsets are not supported.
- For Linux and Solaris, we support the respective generic SCSI mechanisms.
- For Windows, we support ASPI and generic SCSI access.
| In principle, we support all true SCSI-2 devices. It has been our experience, however, that standards are often implemented incorrectly or only partially. We therefore recommend to use only those devices that are marked as tested and working. | |||||||
