Schenker chooses SAPERION for worldwide document management

With 10,000 simultaneous users in 17 countries and 45 million documents to be archived by 2010, Schenker AG's latest project has become one of the largest individual orders in SAPERION's corporate history.

With 10,000 simultaneous users in 17 countries and 45 million documents to be archived by 2010, Schenker AG's latest project has become one of the largest individual orders in SAPERION's corporate history.

From now on, everything is "Tango" at Schenker. Tango is the name of the project to replace most existing air cargo and sea freight systems with one central solution in the next few years. Tango's goal is to streamline global air cargo and sea freight processes by preparing outgoing mail and to store all outgoing documents in a revision-proof way. Tango's software component includes a flexible output and document management (OD&M) system. The DMS component of that will be SAPERION's solution. The output aspect will be handled by a solution from StreamServe. The prime contractor is T-Systems GmbH who will integrate document and output management as well as provide the connection to the central Tango application. A further option will be to archive incoming documents as well.
StreamServe takes raw data from Tango's OD&M application and converts it into revision-proof PDF, TIF or ASCII format. The outgoing documents generated in this way can be sent via printer, e-mail, fax or SMS. Subsequently, they can be automatically archived by the SAPERION system according to the legal requirements imposed on archiving. SAPERION provides access to the archived documents directly from the Tango application at any point in time.
Rudolf Gessinger, CEO of SAPERION AG: "SAPERION's high integration potential, its nearly unlimited scalability, highest functionality on a stable platform as well as highly available information provision at distributed sites convinces an increasing number of globally operating corporations such as Schenker AG."
Peter Schumann, CIO of Schenker AG: "With the introduction of a centralized solution for all air cargo and sea freight processes we expect an optimized collaboration between the individual Schenker foreign subsidiaries due to the comprehensive overview of all business transactions available. Especially the possibility to access all archived documents worldwide at any point in time was of high significance to us. We decided in favor of SAPERION for two reasons: First, they provide very good integration options with their output management system and the leading Tango application. Second, the system has a sophisticated architecture and a state-of-the-art concept comprising several system levels, which renders the software the right tool to be applied in globally distributed systems." Schenker will handle its entire annual turnover of five billion Euros using the integrated solution.
Schenker Deutschland AG, with its headquarter in Frankfurt am Main, is one of the leading providers for integrated logistics in the German market with more than 100 sites which are all integrated into the area-wide and global network of the Schenker foreign subsidiaries. The global network of all Schenker foreign subsidiaries comprises about 1,500 sites where more than 55,000 employees accomplish logistic perfection. Schenker manages national and international overland transportation, air cargo and sea freight and combines each in the most economical way possible. Schenker belongs to the Transport and Logistics unit of Deutsche Bahn AG. Project Tango is managed by the Schenker Head Office in Essen.
